Transfer Your Technical College Certification

Turn your hard work into college credits at Utah Tech University. Students who complete eligible certificates from one of Utah’s technical colleges can receive up to 30 elective credits toward an associate or bachelor’s degree at Utah Tech. That means you can save time, reduce costs, and keep moving toward your goals.

Credit Conversion

Students may receive elective credit for their completed certificate (those certificates with a minimum of 10 technical college credits) as outlined in the details below at a one-to-one ratio, up to the 30-elective credit maximum.

30-credit (900 hour) technical college certificates: 30 elective credits at Utah Tech

20-credit (600 hour) technical college certificates: 20 elective credits at Utah Tech

3

10-credit (300 hour) technical college certificates: 10 elective credits at Utah Tech

The credit conversion table above applies to completed technical college certificates that have a minimum of 10 technical college credits. For technical college certificates with less than 10 credits, students can pursue our Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) option at Utah Tech – https://academics.utahtech.edu/prior-learning-assessment/ or https://academics.utahtech.edu/experiential-learning-credit/.

Although the Utah Tech Registrar’s Office will automatically award the credits you should receive based on your technical college completed certificate as outlined in the credit conversion table above, we recommend visiting with your assigned academic advisor to discuss how those awarded credits apply to your degree requirements at Utah Tech if you are unsure.

Dixie Tech/Utah Tech

General Technology - Business Emphasis 

Complete a 30-credit Dixie Tech certificate to fulfill technical specialty in the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in General Technology – Business emphasis degree at Utah Tech (30 credits)

Dixie Tech certificates would include Drafting and Design, Medical Assistant, Automotive Technology, Collision Repair Technology, Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, Machining Technology and Welding Technology; Pharmacy Technician certificate also included (*see different awards credits – 17 credits)

Complete Dixie Tech Culinary Arts Certificate and receive 30-credit technical specialty toward an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Hotel and Resort Operations at Utah Tech

Biotechnology

With a Biotechnology certificate from Dixie Tech, students receive the above one-to-one course equivalencies and the rest as elective credit up to 30 credits total

LPN to RN (AASN)

Complete the LPN certificate at Dixie Tech, earning 20 credits, which meets one of the prerequisite criteria to apply for the AASN degree program at Utah Tech.
